Dear AAB Readers: Is it okay to keep in touch with an ex? DROP YOUR COMMENT

From a AAB reader
Please is it okay to keep intouch with an ex? My wife thinks its not right and has been fighting me for communicating with my exs. One is married while the other is still single. The married one is the one that calls often. They call to check on me and to ask for advise and I also call them to know how they are doing. I don't think there is anything wrong with it but my wife is fighting me about it. Please will like to know other people's opinion on this. Thanks

Graphic Photo: Two men behead 7 year old boy for N250k

The two men who beheaded a little boy Left: 30 year old Ishaya Dakulung and (right) 25 year John Yakubu
7 year old Samu Danjuma was John Yakubu's neighbour's child in Nasarawa. Yakubu was said to have lured the little boy to a forest where he beheaded him and dumped his body in a stream. Yakubu then took his head to Ishaya in Abuja who promised him N250, 000 for fresh human head. Dakulung was to give the head to someone else for ritual purposes, but fortunately the two men were accosted and arrested by men of the SSS following a tip off. They were paraded to newsmen this week in Abuja.

You know what the bible says about people who hurt children? Hang a millstone around their neck and drown them in the depth of the sea. A horrible horrible photo after the cut...viewer discretion advised...

R Kelly claims the movie Notebook ended his marriage; his wife remembers it differently

Drama! In his new memoir, 'Soulacoaster: The Diary of Me', R Kelly claims the movie 'The Notebook' ended his marriage to Andrea Kelly. In an excerpt of Soulacoaster, R Kelly writes;
“As the film credits started to roll, I couldn’t move. I burst into tears. People walking past me patted me on the back, trying to console me. The Notebook was beautiful, and I was crying because its hero and heroine had died together."
“But I was also crying because I remembered a Valentine’s Day – when a helicopter dropped a rainfall of roses – that had come and gone… My marriage had died. And there was nothing I could do to bring it back.
R Kelly's ex wife, Andrea, who's currently appearing on 'Hollywood Exes' remembers it differently. What she told TMZ when you continue...

"[The movie] came out in 2004 and we saw it together. Our divorce wasn’t finalized until 2009 so it’s impossible that the movie could have been the reason for our relationship ending. We had been separated for 6 years at that point! The movie definitely did not end our relationship!”
On Hollywood Exes Andrea maintains she divorced R Kelly because she was tired of being an unknown wife.

Mariah Carey Joins ‘American Idol’ As New Judge

Fox wasted no time replacing one of their two empty chairs at “American Idol’s” judges panel. The network announced at the Television Critics Association press tour on Monday that Mariah Carey will be joining the singing competition for season 12. And she just became the HIGHEST PAID JUDGE in reality television … because her one-year deal with “American Idol” is worth close to $18 MILLION.
“As a singer, songwriter and producer, it’s going to be fun and rewarding to help find new talent and give back with ‘American Idol,’ ” Mariah Carey said in a statement. “I’m currently in the studio working on my new album and its first single, ‘Triumphant,’ which will be out early next month. I can’t wait to channel my creative energy as a part of this show which is a massive global phenomenon.”
“Mariah Carey is the real deal. Not only is she one of the best-selling artists and performers on the planet and one of the world’s most gifted vocalists, she also is a successful songwriter, record producer and actress,” Mike Darnell, president of alternative entertainment at Fox, said in a statement. “She has a deep knowledge of music and a career insight that will make her a really amazing asset to our judges’ table and to our contestants. It’s the dream of almost everyone who auditions for ‘Idol’ to sing like Mariah and we couldn’t be happier to have her be part of the show.”

The singer’s husband, Nick Cannon, last week joked that “Idol” couldn’t afford his superstar wife. “I don’t know if they can afford a Mariah Carey,” he told TMZ. “If they gave (Jennifer Lopez) $20 million, they might have to double that!”

Man Brutally Beats and Stabs His Wife For not Allowing Him To Marry A Second Wife

A 21yr old Mutorashanga man( small ferrochrome mining town in Mashonaland West province in Zimbabwe),  has been jailed for four months for beating up and stabbing his wife with a knife after she objected on him marrying a second wife
The convicted, whose name is Ariyeri Apitoni was  on his own plea of guilty to the charge of contravening section 3 of the Domestic Act Chapter 5:16 when he appeared before magistrate on friday.
The court heard the couple had quarreled many times over the husband’s plans to marry a second wife.
Prior to the incident, the wife had abandoned her home after her husband insisted he would pursue his marriage plans of marrying a second wife and was now staying with her parents.
The State case was that on June , Cecilia Chifamba (22), who was on her way to visit a sick uncle at Munaka Farm, met her estranged husband who forcibly took her clothes and ordered her to join him back home.
On the same day at around noon, Apitoni proceeded to his in-law’s residence where he intended to “sweet-talk” Chifamba back home but she refused.
This incensed Apitoni who drew out a multi-blade knife from his pocket and stabbed the complainant once in the back before fleeing.
The wife sustained a deep cut as a result of the attack, the court heard.
The magistrate sentenced Apitoni to a four-month prison term or $300 fine.

Mercy Johnson is pregnant!

It is now glaring that Nigerians help married people count the days and months after a marriage, as all they are interested in is what follows after a marriage-pregnancy.
Almost a year after she tied the knot with her beau, Prince Odianosen Okojie, the talented actress is expecting her first child. Linda, the popular acclaimed blogger has announced to Nigerians that Mercy Johnson ispregnant, and that she personally confirmed that from her publicist who declared it true.
It is always a thing of joy to expect a new life being born into this world, and for a celebrity like Mercy, the feeling of having a new being kicking inside is one of the greatest that could happen, and most just prefer it better than being a celeb itself.

Mills, Ghanaian President, dies of throat cancer

Ghanaian  President, John  Mills, died on Tuesday, few hours after announcing to Parliament that he was leaving for Nigeria.
The British Broadcasting Corporation reports that 68-year-old Mills,  who had been suffering from throat cancer,  died in  the capital, Accra a few hours after being taken ill.
“It is with a heavy heart that we announce the sudden and untimely death of the President of the Republic of Ghana,” a statement from the Presidency  said.
Chief of Staff John Newman, who addressed the nation on state-run GTV and TV3, said   Mills died  at the 37th Military Hospital in Accra. Newman gave no details about the cause of Mills’ death.
Information Minister Baffour also declined to elaborate. “Yes, I can confirm (his death), but I can’t say more,” he told The Associated Press.
The BBC reports that  Mill’s voice had been degenerating in the last few months.
A presidential aide said the leader had complained of suffering pains on Monday evening. He had returned to Ghana after visiting the US for medical checks, Reuters reports.
The late President celebrated his 68th birthday on Saturday on a low-key with orphans in Accra.
He was a former law professor and served as Ghana’s vice president to President Jerry Rawlings  from 1997 to 2000. He ran for president unsuccessfully in 2000 and 2004 before winning the election in 2009.He was to run for a second term in December and Mills was to be the ruling party’s candidate.
He spent much of his career teaching at the University of Ghana. He earned a doctorate from London’s School of Oriental and African Studies before becoming a Fulbright scholar at Stanford University in Palo Alto, California.
Vice-President John Mahama was sworn in as President on Tuesday.
The Ghanaian  election commission said December’s presidential and parliamentary elections would go ahead as planned.
“The election calendar remains unchanged – it’s purely a party matter,” election chief Kwadwo Afari-Gyan told Reuters, explaining that it was up to the ruling National Democratic Congress  to find a candidate to replace Mills.
In March, US President Barack Obama received Mills  in the Oval Office and praised him and his country as “a good-news story” in Africa.

Reps divided over impeachment plot against Jonathan

There were indications on Tuesday that members of the House of Representatives were divided over the threat to impeach President Goodluck.
The division in the House, particularly among the Peoples Democratic Party’s lawmakers, came to the fore on Tuesday when the Chairman of the Committee on Capital Market, Mr. Ibrahim El-Sudi, said that the threat was the handiwork of the opposition in the lower chamber of the National Assembly.
But the House spokesman, Mr. Zakari Mohammed, in an interview with one of our correspondents, faulted El-Sudi, saying he was merely expressing his personal opinion.
The lawmakers had on Thursday accused the President of breaching the 2012 Appropriation Act and poorly executing the budget. They also adopted a motion giving Jonathan up to September to achieve “100 per cent execution” of the budget or face impeachment proceedings.
The motion was endorsed by all members of the House.
El-Sudi however on Tuesday, on Sunrise Daily, a live breakfast programme of a private television, Channels TV, gave an impression that the decision was the idea of members of the opposition in the House.
When one of the television presenters sought to know from El-Sudi why the PDP-dominated House was issuing an impeachment threat against the President, the lawmaker said the threat came from members of the opposition.
He added that contrary to the widely-publicised reports of the impeachment threat, the House of Representatives had not taken any decision on what would happen by September.
El-Sudi said, “It (the impeachment threat) came from members of the opposition and they are entitled to their opinion. It was not a resolution of the House.
“The House resolved that the President should implement the budget as passed. The House has not taken a decision on what will happen come September.”
Presidential adviser on National Assembly Matters, Joy Emodi, re-echoed El-Sudi’s submission while briefing journalists in Abuja later on Tuesday.
Emodi said there was no threat of impeachment against the President from the House.
She said, “The original motion had only two prayers and after deliberations and an amendment by Hon. Ogbuefi Ozomgbachi, only one prayer was carried by the House and it had nothing to do with impeachment threat.
“What actually happened during the debate on budget implementation was that the Minority Leader ( Femi Gbajabiamila, Lagos, ACN) in his contribution, mentioned impeachment which was not even put to vote. At no time did the House resolve to impeach the President.
“In fact, the House in its resolution urged Mr. President to ensure implementation of the provisions of section 6 of the 2012 Appropriation Act by directing the Minister of Finance to release immediately all outstanding funds appropriated to the MDAs for the first and second quarters and begin forthwith to comply with the Act by ensuring that the funds appropriated under the Act to the MDAs for the remaining third and fourth quarters are released as and when due.”
Emodi commended the Speaker, Aminu Tambuwal, for his “very mature handling of deliberations on the motion that day.”
But Mohammed in an interview with one of our correspondents, said El-Sudi was merely expressing his personal opinion.
Contrary to El-Sudi’s claim, Mohammed said the threat to impeach Jonathan was the decision of all members of the House.
“The resolution of the House was clear and simple. Gbajabiamila’s prayer was taken as part of the resolution of all the members,” Mohammed, who is also a member of the PDP, said.
Mohammed said there had been attempts to heat up the polity over the decision of the House “by diverting attention from the main issue, which is poor budget implementation.”
He added that the position of the House was “conditional.”
Mohammed explained that if members were satisfied by September 18 that budget implementation has improved remarkably, the impeachment proceedings would no longer be necessary.
“It is conditional; we said do this or by 18th September, impeachment proceedings will commence.
“That was the resolution and we stand by it till September 18.The attempt to heat the polity over this issue is unnecessary and diversionary. People talk as though they do not know the importance of budget implementation.”
Members of the PDP National Working Committee will however deliberate on the move to impeach the President at their meeting on Wednesday (today).
Investigations by our correspondent on Tuesday indicated that the refusal of the members to speak on the issue was because the NWC had not deliberated on the matter.
A member of the committee, who spoke with one of our correspondents on condition of anonymity on Tuesday, said that the impeachment threat had been listed among the issues to be discussed at the meeting.
“We are going to discuss the matter at our meeting on Wednesday after which we would issue a statement on the matter,” the PDP NWC member said.
Meanwhile, there were indications that Jonathan had been taking steps to escape the anger of the lawmakers with various ministers briefing the President behind closed doors on budget performance of their ministries.
On Thursday last week, the Minister of Police Affairs, Navy-Capt. Caleb Olubolade; and his interior ministry counterpart, Mr. Abba Moro, took turns to brief the President.
They did not speak with journalists.
But after the Minister of Agriculture, Dr. Akinwunmi Adesina, briefed Jonathan on Tuesday, the Presidency decided that the minister should speak with State House correspondents on what he discussed with the President.
Presidential spokesman, Dr. Reuben Abati, said he decided that the minister should brief journalists on the meeting with the President because they are “the ears and eyes of your media houses and by extension the public.”
“Budget performance is something the President takes very seriously. It is not an event, it is a process,” Abati said.
Adesina told  the journalists that he used the opportunity to intimate Jonathan of the progress being made by the ministry as far as Budget 2012 was concerned and the challenges.
He said the President was satisfied with the progress the ministry was making in the area of agricultural transformation agenda the goal of which was to provide food security and reduce importation of food as well as create sustainable jobs.
The minister said his ministry had recorded 68 per cent budget utilisation.
He said, “The 2012 Budget was passed on March 15, 2012 and agriculture’s season started in January.
“N48.1billion was budgeted for capital projects with N13.8billion released.
“So far, we have spent N9.4billion of the amount released. We have achieved 68 per cent utilisation at least for the main ministry, while some of our parastatals have achieved as much as 100 per cent of the amount released to them from March when the budget was passed.”

LASG to close Third Mainland Bridge for two Sundays

Governor of Lagos State
The Lagos State Government says motorists in the state would experience complete diversion of traffic from the Third Mainland Bridge on  July 29 and August 5, 2012.
Commissioner for Transportation, Mr. Kayode Opeifa, said in Alausa, Lagos on Tuesday, that the diversion would start from 6am and end at 12 midnight on the two days.
The commissioner explained that traffic on the bridge needed to undergo total diversion on the two days to allow for the concrete casting of the three expansion joints currently undergoing repair.
He said, “The concrete casting and drying process requires zero vibration, hence the complete diversion of vehicular traffic away from the bridge from Oworonshoki end to Adeniji Adele end on Sunday, July 29 and Sunday, August 5, 2012.
“During the diversion, motorists inward Lagos Island and Ikeja would be restricted from having access to the bridge from 6am to 12am on both days.”
Opeifa appealed for patience, saying the repair works and diversions were to ensure safety of motorists.
He urged motorists approaching the bridge from the Lagos end to follow the diversion at Adeniji Adele Interchange to Carter Bridge, and then link Iddo interchange where they can easily connect Ikeja, Ojota, Ketu, Ikorodu, Agege, Lagos Ibadan Expressway, Alimosho, Oshodi, Abule Egba amongst others via Eko Bridge, Herbert Macaulay Road and Apapa – Oshodi Expressway.
The Commissioner added that those going to Lagos Island would be diverted at Oworonshoki to connect Ikorodu Road (via Anthony Interchange) to link either Jibowu to Muritala Muhammed Way to Iddo or continue to Eko Bridge through Funsho Wiliams Avenue; or Agege Motor Road (via Oshodi Interchange) to link Moshalasi to either Jibowu to Murtala Mohamed Way and Apapa – Oshodi Expressway through Mile 2 to connect Ijora and then Lagos Island.
Opeifa said officials of the Lagos State Traffic Management Authority would be on the ground to ensure free flow of traffic and remove any impediment  that may obstruct easy movement.
The Federal Government commenced repair works on eight expansion joints on the bridge on July 8. The repair works and traffic diversion are expected to last for four months.

Jonathan, govs won’t benefit from five-year single term

The Senate’s Constitution Review Committee on Tuesday said  President Goodluck Jonathan and the incumbent governors would not benefit from the five-year single tenure proposed at its retreat in Asaba, Delta State on Saturday.
The Deputy Senate President and Chairman of the committee, Senator Ike Ekweremadu,  stated this in an African Independent Television  programme, Focus Africa.
He said all issues raised at the retreat would be subjected to national debates.
Ekweremadu stated that the single five-year tenure for the President and governors was not the idea of the committee.
According to him, it is among the proposals by a consultant to the committee and memoranda for constitution amendment  that have been submitted by various groups.
The memoranda, he said, pointed to the fact that Nigerians would be more comfortable with single tenure.
He stated, “Now that it has come up, we are prepared to continue the national dialogue in that respect and see what Nigerians will think about it.
“If it is preponderance of opinion that we should go for single tenure, the question will be ‘how many years?’ Five years is just a suggestion.”
Ekweremadu said  the committee would not limit itself to the suggestion on the five-year single tenure.
“For now, we are throwing it back to the public to decide whether they want single term or two tenures. If they want single tenure, how many years?” he added.
The deputy Senate president explained that the current President and governors would not benefit from the single term.
He said, “It is the opinion of our consultants that single term will not be available to those who are in office presently. If you are in office as President or governor, either on first and second term, you will not benefit from it.
“If you are on first term as a governor or President, you will have to make the sacrifice of surrendering your rights for second term.  If the proposal succeeds, only those who are not in office as governor or President can  vie for election for a single term.”
Defending the single tenure proposal, he said its proponents believed that once politicians got elected, they would start preparing for the second term, thus relegating to the background, issues they were elected for.
He stated that those  proposing single tenure were of the view that two-term tenure was distracting to the President and governors.
“As a President or a governor, there are certain things you want to do, but you won’t do  because you don’t want to hurt anybody because you want to come back. Those things you want to do may be in the best interest of the country.”
Also during the television programme, the Senate Majority Leader, Senator Victor Ndoma-Egba, said the single tenure would enable elected officers to concentrate on governance.
The Senate majority leader suggested that the single term could be experimented for 20 or 30 years.
Explaining the purpose of the Asaba retreat, he said, “We did not present any communiqué. There were no resolutions on any issue.
“We are in Asaba to merely distill various issues that arose from various memoranda we have received and to identify possible issues. Many more issues will come from public hearings.”
Meanwhile, Senate President, David Mark, has said the constitutional amendment embarked upon by the National Assembly will  address all the problems confronting the nation
Mark, who spoke at a church service for the late Senator Gyang Dantong, said the National Assembly, the governors and all stakeholders in the amendment process were on the same page on the areas that required amendment.

A special new song titled “Let’s get the Party Started” composed by the five artiste for Star lager beer sent the crowd screaming and was followed by the highlight of the night, the unveiling of Star lager beer new look by D’banj, Wizkid, Tiwa Salvage and MI. The new payoff of Star lager beer, “shine on” was what was on the lips of fun lovers as they savour the occasion with consumption of chilled bottles of star lager beer. The new look Star now comes in a 3D authenticity logo watermarked with tiny stars, it also has a re-designed back label with revised brand message and new crown cork with upgraded 3Dlogo and logo ring, blue body label and neck foil.

Speaking at the star studded event which attracted more than 6,000 select consumers’  Mr Nicolaas Vervelde, Managing Director of Nigerian Breweries plc said there is no doubt that Star lager beer is a distinct market leader that will always be there. “Star did not start to shine now; it has always led the market. It was renewed in 1956 and in 1974 it became the first beer brand to introduce neck label and in 2007, it took a bold innovative stride by introducing packaging in Cans, so star has always been with Nigeria.”

Walter Drenth, Marketing Director of NB plc, who also spoke at the epoch making event said superior product quality has been the driving force of Star; he added that consumers have come to trust the brand because of its consistent quality over the years. The brand has the heritage of being brewed under strict quality standards since 1949 and the consumer promise remains uncompromised. Another factor is the strong distribution network.  The brand has a very strong distribution footprint which spans the length and breadth of Nigeria. It is therefore not by accident that the ever refreshing Star is widely distributed and readily available across the country and is within the reach of consumers. The Star brand, right from when it was initiated, has maintained a constant message of bringing “brightness” to its consumers.  This is always reflected in all its marketing campaigns.

Drenth stressed that another factor that adds to Star’s equity is the fact that it has one of the best communications across all media. This Communication has been consistent over the years. Again, this does not happen by accident. It is a well thought out process that has made the brand young and fresh despite the fact that it has been around for 63 years. Star is one of the best run brands to come out of Nigeria.

Innovation, he pointed out, also plays a fundamental part in the development of the Star brand over the years. Another factor any discerned brand analyst can identify is that Star has been noted for churning out adverts which has consistently projected the superior quality of the brand over the years. Right from the beginning, the brand made a strong statement, from the first campaign slogan of “Ah! Star – Beer at its best” introduced in 1949 through the “Brightness” campaign of the 1970s/80s, to the “Turn to Star – The ideal brew” campaign, unveiled in 1989, to the “Live the Brighter Life In Style – Star Ahead on Taste” campaign of the 1990’s and then to the campaigns of “Never A Dull Moment with Star”, “Share the Brighter Life”,  “Shine Shine Bobo” and “Let’s get the party STARted”, it is clear that the advertising campaign development history of Star has been consistent in creating a mythical halo for the brand. The rave-making campaign that heralded the STAR Bottle change in 2000 is still fresh in the mind of consumers. The ‘Star Dance’ and Shine Shine Bobo are equally award winning materials.

On his part, Sampson Oloche, Senior Brand Manager Star added that “As a brand with mass appeal, there is a need to constantly engage with consumers in a bid to meeting their needs and understanding their aspirations. Star relies on different media and stakeholder touch points in order to reach its target audience. Our consumer engagement platforms are some of the most robust in the country today. From Star Quest to Star Trek to Star Mega Jam it is always meeting the consumer where he is and always responding to his need to have a brighter life always. In fact, consumers are charged with the responsibility of picking the foreign act they want to have for the popular Star Mega Jam”.

Oloche added that the platforms that the brand provides have been a veritable avenue for younger adults to express themselves and showcase their talents.  The brand is thus seen as giving back to the society by empowering the youths, most of whom may never have had the opportunity to know they even have hidden talents. “You remember KC Presh? They were the first winners of Star Quest and they are still a force to be reckoned with in Nigerian music today in their individual capacities. So the activation provides a good platform for aspiring musical artistes seeking to make impact in the industry.

On the onslaught of competition, he said “We will always be steps ahead of competition because we have vibrant marketing support which enables us to consistently rejuvenate the brand in all consumer touch points i.e. packaging, communication, promotions and advertising to ensure its relevance and authority. In arriving at this we rely on consumer and market insight which in turn drives and leads to constant consumer-led innovations. You have your winning formula when you have an effective distribution network.”
