Exposed! Government To Pay Boko Haram Sect Financial Compensation

The believe in certain quarters that the Nigerian government only pays attention to whatever a person or group of persons are saying when they carry arms against the state is about to play out again, following desperate efforts to end the killings by Boko Haram.

“For conditions that are not difficult to meet such as the demand for Diyya (financial compensation) for their 24 identified members that were killed, the government may meet such demands."

A very dependable source in the Presidency told Punch on Sunday that the Federal Government will give anything to the sect because it does not want to miss the opportunity for dialogue as offered by the sect’s second-in-command, Abu Mohammed Ibn Abdulaziz.

“I can confirm to you that it is true that the group is currently dialoguing with the government. The good news is that they are talking and they have promised to cease fire once some of their demands are met.

“Government can also give critical thought to those found to be innocent, but are being detained or prosecuted, particularly women and children as demanded by the group since they do not have any objection to the trial of those genuinely involved in crime,” the source added.

Meanwhile, one of the people named by Boko Haram as mediators, Senator Bukar Abba Ibrahim, said on Sunday that neither the Federal Government nor the sect had reached out to him over the proposed peace talks between the two parties.

Senator Ibrahim, a former governor, said “I have not been contacted by anybody, either from the Federal Government side or Boko Haram. What you have been hearing on radio or on televisions is false, thank you.”

It would be recalled that the group also gave a condition that the discussion with the government must take place in Saudi Arabia

Okada riders beat up LASTMA officers

Aggrieved riders of motorcycles popularly called Okada plying Magodo area of Lagos State took to the Ojodu Berger road on Monday to engage some officers of the Lagos State Traffic and Management Authority in a fight after a raid by a combined team of policemen and LASTMA officers.

Our correspondent gathered that an Okada rider, said to be plying one of the restricted routes, was chased by the patrol teams.

An eyewitness said when they left after chasing other Okada riders away, others went on the rampage threatening to attack any LASTMA man in sight.

When our correspondent arrived at the scene of the incident, some of the protesting Okada riders were seen blocking the Roundabout at the end of the road with a traffic box.
They also beat two officers of the LASTMA controlling traffic on the road before they were rescued by passers-by and members of the Ojodu-Berger chapter of the National Union of Road Transport Workers.

Some of the motorcycle riders said they were not operating on any of the restricted routes in the state and could not understand why the police had continued to molest them.
The incident caused a gridlock before members of the Ojodu-Berger chapter of the NURTW mobilised themselves to control the traffic.

Chairman of the Ojodu-Berger Park of the NURTW, Mr. Tokunbo Seriki said the police were on a “sanitising” exercise across motor parks in the area.

He said it was after they finished checking the park that they decided to move to the Okada Park.
Seriki said, ‘‘I was told that a fight was about to break between the LASTMA officers and the Okada riders, so I quickly moved in with my officers.  This axis is known for peace and we will not compromise the peace for anything. We will control the traffic till we are sure the officers are safe.”

FG planning to ban Postinor 2?

There are rumours that the federal government is planning to ban birth control/morning after pill, Postinor 2, because of its side effects. (If you're a user, Google to find out the side effects).

The purported ban is the number one trending topic on Twitter right now and trust Naijas, they know how to find trouble. Hehe! People started tweeting @2face Idibia about the ban and making jokes. He didn't find it funny...lol

Ph.D and Masters Degree Holders Apply as Drivers In Dangote's Company

The sad reality of unemployment in Nigeria has been highlighted by the number of applications from higher degree and first degree holders who sought employment as drivers in Dangote group. According to statistics, about 13,000 Nigerians submitted application but the company only needed 100 drivers.

Of the 13,000 applications received by the Dangote Group for the Graduate Executive Truck Driver, there were six Ph.D, 704 Masters and over 8,460 Bachelor degree holders.

Speaking during the mentor-ship meeting of the World Bank Youth Forum, Chairman of Dangote Group, Aliko Dangote, said that the company needed just 100 drivers, but received the overwhelming applications.

Dangote said: “All these things are verifiable, and they all graduated from reputable institutions which is satisfactory; and our plan is to eventually make them self dependent.

“Despite the fact that the drivers get trip allowances on each trip along with their salaries, the arrangement is that they will own the trucks at no interests or repayments after they must have reached 300,000 kilometres, which is about 140 trips from Lagos to Kano and a hard working driver can complete in two years, while lazy ones can take maximum of four years.”

This indeed indeed an irony in country as blessed as Nigeria. If only corrupt politicians will allow things to work well in this country. In a growing economy, it is rather shocking that Ph.D and Masters degree holders are seeking placement as drivers.

Many analysts are of the opinion that the government in Nigeria have not done enough to generate employment for her citizens or support the private sector (small scale industries) to create jobs and employ more Nigerians.

The YouWIN and other such programmes are now seen as a scam meant to deceive the gullible.

Okada rider beaten and stripped naked by policemen (Photos)

A LIB reader who witnessed this incident yesterday sent in the report and photos. According to her, the naked man in the picture is an Okada man who violated the new Lagos state traffic law. He was arrested at the junction adjoining University road and St Finbarrs college road Akoka by policemen in mufti, and before anyone could say anything, the policemen descended on the Okadaman, beating him mercilessly and then stripping him naked.

They stopped the inhuman treatment after people around gathered at the scene and begged them to stop. This is the police protecting us!

Lagosians trek as okada ban, fuel scarcity bite harder

Stranded commuters at Alausa...on Wednesday
With the restriction of okada on some routes and the worsening fuel scarcity in Lagos State, many Lagosians who were stranded trekked to their destinations on Wednesday.
Also, motorists were held up for hours following gridlock on most major roads. Lagos-Ibadan Expressway towards Seven-Up, Yaba, Iyana Ipaja, Ikorodu Road, Oshodi-Apapa Expressway, Lagos-Abeokuta Expressway, Oba Akran Avenue, Oba Ogunnusi Road in Ogba among others witnessed traffic snarl.
Findings by our correspondents showed that the gridlock was as a result of motorists struggling to buy fuel at some filling stations, ban on okada in some routes and Sallah rush.
At Oando filling station, Oba Akinjobi Way, Ikeja and at Total filling station in Ojota, where fuel was being dispensed, the queues took over a large part of the road causing gridlock.
Some motorists and commuters, who spoke with our correspondents, also attributed the situation to the Lagos State Government new traffic laws.
