Over the years, this delectable actress has become a household name in the Yoruba movie industry. The beautiful chubby Ayo Adesasanya and her ex-husband, Goriola Hassan became a news item in 2009 when their relationship of about 8 years hit the rocks.

The University of Ibadan graduate has since moved on with life and things are obviously looking up for her. In a few weeks from now, Ayo’s ‘Amope Alasela”, a comedy produced by her will be on the movie stands all over the country.

She has finally opened up on why and how her marriage packed up, etc. etc...

What informs this gentleness about you which you exhibit?
I think it has to do with my nature. I don’t catch my trip being hyper or everywhere. I have a calm nature and I look well before I take my actions. That does not suggest ‘am an introvert. I talk and gist when I see people ‘am familiar with.

How do you handle male suitors as a star actress especially now that you are out of marriage?
That is true I have a couple of guys who want to go out with me but am mature minded and know how to handle men. There is a way you tell somebody “No” without being rude to the person.

Does that suggest you are in any relationship for now?
(laughs) Yes I am in a relationship.

Is it the same relationship that created so much attention about you dating an official of a parastatal like a year ago?Really? (laughs) I am in a relationship and ‘am enjoying every bit of the relationship.

Are you going to give marriage a trial?
If it comes why not? Definitely I will give marriage a trial. There are several level-headed men around. So I will give marriage another try someday.

Do you think you and your ex-husband, Goriola Hassan can reconcile?
Capital NO. I don’t see anything of such happening we are not just compatible. We can never reconcile, never.

What didn’t you see the incompatibility while you were together?
As human beings we are not perfect. We make mistakes and learn from our actions. Life experiences can come in the hard way or any other way.

What are the irreconcilable difference that is responsible for your not coming back?
His ways are not my ways. And I don’t think anyone in a relationship that is not bringing happiness should stay.

How many years did the relationship last?
The relationship lasted for about 8 years.

What does being out of the marriage leave you with?
It leaves me a happier person. I have also been able to discover myself. There are several things now I can do all by myself now than before.

How true is it that you parked out of the house in the middle of the night?
Yes, I parked out of the house in the middle of the night. I don’t want to relive my past.

You both have the same tattoo drawn on your arms. That obviously is a sign an attachment
(cuts in) I have started undergoing series of surgeries abroad to clear the tattoo off my body.

Does that not suggest efforts to get rid of anything about him?
I am just tired of having tattoos on me. I have mellowed now on all those stuffs. I am now more spiritual and my religious inclinations kicks against it.

What is the state of your relationship with your ex-husband?
I don’t want to go into that please.

Who is responsible for the upkeep of your son?
I don’t want to go into that for the sake of my son.

As a single mother, how do you cope with paying bills?
Don’t forget I work moreover God has been good to me.

Peradventure you decide to settle down, who is your kind of man?
He must be god-fearing. I mean a real god-fearing man because there are so many fake God fearing men around. He must also be humble even if he owns the world. Humility means a lot to me. He must also be cool and nice to me.

What if the man in your life demands your hand in marriage?
Of course, I will marry him. And no further comments on that please.

There are strong insinuations that the man in your life is married…
That is not true. The man in my life is single. He is 100% single.

He has never been married.?
Am not talking about the man in my life. He is single.

What do you like about him?
He is god-fearing and really understands me well including my short comings.

Are you cool with your status?
Yes am very fine. And I can pay any amount just to be happy.

WE are coming to another album launch, how has it been so far? And the journey to this particular album, how has it been? I bless the name of the lord, for giving me this opportunity, for taking me from mere clay to where I am today, I bless his holy name, this is the 9th album, and this is not a launching, this is an unveiling, we just want to unveil it, nobody is going to launch, everybody is just going to pick their own, just give anything you like, even #500 is not small, even 200naria is not too small, I just want to bless God for taking me this far, it has been so rough, tough and I have experienced a lot of things, turbulence, if I can say, but yet bless the name of God, for making me stand up to this present time.

Concerning the situation of the economy now, not just the economy, the state and Nigeria as a nation, the insecurity and everything, is there a place for your album?
Yes, we are unveiling two albums here today, Agbelebu and Alagbara, Alagbara talks about what is happening in our country and Agbelebu is talking about our own personal life, because at times you know we use to talk about our leaders, saying they are not doing it right, because they are not supposed to be there, but what about our own area? Have we done our own part? So everything in Agbelebu and Alagbara is what God said I should tell people and am sure that people won't be disappointed.

Two albums you said, considering the competitiveness of the music industry, I know Tope Alabi is a brand, I know she is not competing with another brand, how do you deal with the piracy factor?
There is nothing I can do, I believe in God. Talking about pirating and the rest, I would say, if you don't have any good thing, nobody will buy it, it's when you have a valuable product and people want to be blessed from your gift that they will even consider pirating and duplicating. Actually it's really killing artistes, it is giving us a lot of problem, but what can we do? If God has not said no to them, they can't stop, nobody can stop them.

How do you relax aside music, what other things do you do?
At times I just lodge in hotels for three to four days, at times I travel out, what I do most is watch films; I watch Yoruba films and American films.

What would you say about our Yoruba films now? When we talk about nollywood, I think Yoruba film is at the fore front, what do you think about the Yoruba film industry, most of them even use your music as sound tracks?
I think because there is no helping hand for them, you see them coming down little by little, it wasn't like this before, they ought to have grown more than this, government are not helping them, marketers are not helping either, I think that's why they are just there, and most of them are trying, that's why I don't want to leave them, aside that; God said I should not stop soundtracks, I don't want to leave them, because I know, some of the movies, my soundtrack is there, people want to buy it because Tope Alabi's music is in the film

Nine Albums is not by any chance an easy task so how have you coped and managed to come up with such an impressive feet?
It is God, He inspired me, God tells me what to do at every point in time, and it has been three years now since I have been on this particular album, I waited for God to talk to me, so it is God.

Who writes your music?
God, He dictates for me, while write down.

How do you get inspiration?
It is God, God gives me the inspiration, and this is what I want to tell my people this time around, like this Agbelebu, God gave me the title. There is no way that I would write that God won't tell me the title, I pray and do fasting; wait for God to talk, at times I would be in the rest room, he will be talking to me, at times I would be sleeping he would wake me up.

If you were to pick a particular song of all the tracks in the album, which would be your favorite?
I would say the best is yet to come

What about the particular one we have now?
This one we have now, I will pick the track Agbelebu itself and I will pick Alagbara. In the industry (especially gospel), do you think there is unity among the practitioners and stakeholders. There is unity, in the little way we can, I make friends with all of them, I invited all of them here today, and if you don't see any of them here today, maybe he or she doesn't feel like coming, the bible says make peace with them, we have a society like gospel artiste society, but it failed, they are trying to come together again. I know God will intervene one day.

Are we expecting a concert, when do we get something like a concert from you?
I will have a concert in December.

Any other thing we should be expecting in the nearest future?
Expect from me a music school and that will come up say; in 2 years time. we have gotten the land already, we are just trying to build the place now, we want to teach people how to compose, we want to tell them that, it is not your brain that will bring anything out, we want to tell them, that it is God that will inspire you, you see some gospel artiste, will be cursing him, because they don't know the meaning of the Yoruba, they are saying, we want to teach them God, who God is, they need to know their calling, some of them are not called to this area, they think they have the voice to sing, so they want to go into it, as if it is business, actually it is business, it is the business of God, but at the same time, you cannot do business with God anyhow.

Is it going to be restricted to gospel music alone?
No, it is going to be a music school, generally, but will teach them God too, when you are singing circular, you need to know God, singing circular does not mean you are a bad person, or you are going to hell fire, it doesn't mean, Shola is not singing gospel, but she is making it.

You have definitely impacted lives, you have contributed a lot into music, what has music done for you?
Music has made me achieve what God wants me to achieve, that is, bringing more souls to him that is the only thing I remember and am happy for, am happy my music is touching lives, God wants me to tell people something, they want to listen and hear me out, that is my happiness.

You look quite astonishing, you look young and beautiful, and do you get people coming to pester you for a relationship?
There are some of them that wants to get to you by all means, whether you want it or not, but when they get to me, they use to see am not that kind of person, they will now become a member of my church. The relationship is usually as if I have a church and they are members, so that's what they become. Among them are a lot of money bags, they help my ministry now, they see me as prophetess, some of them even call me pastor, even there are ministers of God that pester me and say they want to get to me, but when they get to me and they see I'm not like that, they change, you are there to change life.

For your fans out there, who wants to quickly get this particular album, what do you have for them, what do you have to tell them as they go out to get this album?
As you go out to get this album, I want you to know that all the things in the album, is for you, and don't believe that because Jesus has carried a cross, that you won't carry your cross, that is the meaning of Agbelebu. You need to carry your own cross, to get to your glory place you need to struggle, to strive, to carry your cross and I tell you, you will get there very soon, do everything in your power to get going, everything worth doing at all is what doing well. Chairman of the Presidential Task Force on Petroleum and former Chairman of the EFCC, Mallam Nuhu Ribadu, has called for a credible opposition to defeat the ruling PDP come 2015. AABLOG gathered

Calling on all Nigerians to support moves by the opposition parties to merge, Olufamous.com gathered that Ribadu said he is ready to give everything he has to bring positive change to Nigeris. He said the country needs urgent help in order to come out of its corruption and security related challenges.

Hear him: “I am 100 per cent in support of the merger move by the opposition political parties in Nigeria. I believe that there is the need for all the political parties in Nigeria to come together particularly those who are in the opposition.

“Nigeria is in dire need of a credible alternative to PDP. If the parties come together, chances are that they would be able to have a formidable party that will confront PDP and until that is done, hopefully, it will bring relief to Nigerians.”

The former EFCC boss, who was retired prematurely as Assistant Inspector-General of Police, also noted that the Nigeria Police Force is in tatters and should be urgently fixed for the nation to overcome its security and internal challenges.

The police must be reformed for peace to reign in Nigeria, Ribadu said.

“The issue of security is very clear. We have a constitution in Nigeria that says the organ or the government agency that is responsible for ensuring that we have security, peace and stability is the Nigeria Police Force. Work on the Nigeria Police Force, fix the Nigeria Police Force, it is their own responsibility, no one else.

“Today, however, the Nigeria Police Force is tattered. It is in bad shape. If we want to have peace, if we want to have a genuine sustainable peace in this country, law enforcement, rule of law, then fix the Nigeria Police Force,” he said.

How This Young Nigerian Moved From A Dropout To An ICT Billionaire

 

“I am not saying it is good to drop out of school, but I am saying it is good to think outside the box. The emphasis on paper qualification in our society has not helped us. If school will limit you as an entrepreneur, get out; and if it will enhance you, stay with it.”

Wande Adalemo dropped out of the Olabisi Onabanjo University to actualise his dream of building an Internet service company, which is now worth N1bn.

He tells DAYO OKETOLA how it all started and what other young Nigerian entrepreneurs can learn from his journey.

The Co-Founder and Chief Operating Officer, Oxygen Broadband Networks, Nigeria’s first metro WiFi network, Mr. Wande Adalemo, is a young man who aspired to be a university graduate and get a job. But an event in 1998 changed the course of his life and he decided to pursue his dream of building an Internet company.

Today, he sits atop a N1bn broadband network company, which has just rolled out a WiFi network at the popular Computer Village in Lagos.

He said his greatest challenge was funding, but the driving force had been the passion to ensure that all Nigerians have access to affordable Internet access through WiFi technology.

From the ground zero in 2005, dropping out of school along the line, Adalemo said he overcome the challenge and was able to attract investors, who believed in his dream and invested in the business.

Adalemo said the company started with a $2m investment and as at today, had invested N1bn with a network infrastructure already in place and duly licensed by the Nigerian Communications Commission.

“As we speak, we are currently at the Computer Village in Lagos, where we have our pilot network. In the last two months since we started, we have had over 20,000 connections sitting on our network,” he said

In view of this, he said the company had laid out an expansion plan, which would see it invest another N200m in rolling out services in six locations across Lagos State before the end of 2012.

“We are doing another N200m investment and we are going to six new locations by December 2012. We are partnering with malls on the Island, Surulere, and high traffic restaurants. We already have agreements with all of these people,” he said.

The expansion, Adalemo said, would see Oxygen Networks expand to 20 locations in March 2013, and 100 locations in Lagos by 2015; and then Abuja, Port Harcourt and Kano, thereafter.

“Of the N200m needed to roll out services by December 2012, we have attained N75m equity investment to date, which means that we are really set to move to these new locations,” he said.

According to him, the company currently operates with 100 per cent private equity fund from the board of directors and “they are putting in more funds to see us expand.”

He said the company had already attracted institutional investors such as Google and Main One Cable Company, which were interested in investing in it and help boost broadband access in the country.

While the start-up appears to be on the right track, the Oxygen Broadband Network boss said the beginning was very rough.

In an interview with our correspondent on how it all started, he said, “I never saw a computer until 1998. I was with my cousin Femi Adalemo, who was the Chairman of the Nigerian Internet Exchange Committee at some points. So, I went to his office and he said he wanted to send a mail to someone in the United States. Five minutes after, the person in the US had responded to the mail and that surprised me.

“I couldn’t sleep that night, and in the morning, I went back to him and asked him to teach me how to develop something that will make Nigerians send and receive e-mails easily. I told him I wanted to do something that would make it easier for every Nigerian to send email.

“He told me it was networking and that was how it started. So, as I grew in my knowledge of what the Internet access and broadband were, it became more of a passion. Getting the technology was one thing, putting it together was another, and getting funding took a while. Between 2005 and now, you can see it has been seven years, it has not been easy.”

On how he got the first investor, who later became a co-founder of the company, Adalemo, said, “We had spoken with a thousand of individuals to put their money in the business and the answer we kept getting was no. Eventually, we found someone and it was an interesting story. We met the first investor, who later became a co-founder of the company, in 2005. I didn’t have a penny that day and then a friend of mine called and said there was someone that ‘is interested in this crazy idea of yours, let’s go and see him.’

“I had to trek from Iponrin to Ajose Adeogun to meet him. He was the managing director of a bank then. Meanwhile, I had met several potential investors who had discouraged me but I did not give up. So, when I got there, he told me; ‘If you cannot convince me in two minutes, I cannot invest in this because an idea that cannot hit someone in two minutes is no good idea.’ Well, I think I was able to hit him in two minutes and the next question he asked was how do we move?

“The first thing we did was to go around the world to see where WiMax was failing because my own idea was that WiMax will not work but WiFi will. So how do we get WiFi to work? And from there, he got some of his friends involved in the business.”

Adalemo reiterated that the company would continue to expand because he believed WiFi technology would play a major role in boosting Internet access in Nigeria.

He said, “Because we believe that everybody should be on the Internet and we are restricted by regulations as to how to expand (we cannot cover wide area), we decided to take the Internet to where everybody is going?

“Oxygen believes that your Internet should be wherever you are going and instead of carrying your modem or dongle around, if you know that Oxygen is present at the place you are going to such as the cinema, restaurant, clubs and malls, among others; then, it becomes a better option for you.”

According to him, the second phase of the company’s expansion will be the ASPANDA Market at the Lagos International Trade Fair Complex, Alaba and Oke Arin markets.

“For or us at Oxygen, we are taking our WiFi network to a point where we have a hots pot in virtually every major street in Lagos. It begins to tell us where we need to start focusing our attention in Nigeria. It also begins to tell us where we need to start building broadband ecosystems. We need to start looking at solutions that will enable people to just plug and deliver broadband services to everybody,” Adalemo explained.

He disclosed that the company had sealed a partnership with the Nigeria Inter-Bank Settlement System Plc to provide its WiFi network for PoS connectivity at the Computer Village, adding that this was the driving force behind its planned extension into the Oke Arin Market.

“Due to our partnership with NIBSS, we are providing WiFi for the purpose of PoS terminals alone at Oke Arin Market. These are some of the plans that Google is excited about,” he said

Adalemo encouraged young Nigerian entrepreneurs not to be deterred by challenges surrounding them, while assuring them of success if they remained focused.

He said this was what made him drop out of school when he found out that academic works were disturbing his entrepreneurial drive.

“I will say that I am also a proud school dropout because at some point, I realised that pursuing academic excellence was interfering with my passion for this dream. May be Oxygen would have become a dream earlier but for exams in school,” he said

When our correspondent took him up on this, he said, “I encourage people to go to school, but once you find that dream, that passion that you can pursue and it is a good idea, you will succeed. Once you are dedicated, you will get there. It is not about everyone leaving school, it is about understanding what will work for you.”

I'm Now Ready To Fight Corruption With Everything –Jonathan

 

 

President Goodluck Jonathan on Monday in Abuja assured Nigerians that he is fully ready to fight corruption with everything at his disposal, notwithstanding the challenges of doing so.

“My administration will fight corruption and associated social vices until they are exterminated from our body polity,” President Jonathan said at the opening of a conference by the Nigerian Institute of Management.

The conference has the theme, “Moving Nigeria forward through strategic transformation.”

The President said the realisation of the nation’s vision of being among the first 20 biggest economies in the world depended on Nigerians’ ability to find solutions to the several challenges facing the nation.

“To set this country on the path of greatness and prosperity, (the) complete elimination of all forms of corrupt practices must be in the front burner and our collective consciousness always. You will agree with me that a great nation is the reward of great leadership. This is our motivation and value proposition.

“Our greatness and prosperity as a country is dependent on our vision, hardwork and patriotism. We must build strong pillars of values and develop positive attitudes even as we build a 21st century country for the benefit of generations yet unborn. I am confident that this institute will partner us and other stakeholders in this important task.

“The Nigerian project is faced with several challenges from every facet. We must find solutions to these challenges if our resolve to be counted among the first 20 most modern economies by the year 2020 is to materialise. I urge all Nigerians to see this project as their own so that together we can realise our dream and leave a legacy that is worthy of emulation by our future generations,” the president stressed.

Update: ACN, CPC, ANPP Fix Merger Date to Defeat The PDP

 

The three leading opposition political parties in Nigeria have intensified talks among them with the aim of merging into one strong party that will dislodge the ruling PDP in 2015.

The parties have decided to settle their "issues" early in order to address the problems that stalled the process in the past. They are also determined to beat INEC's deadline for merger of political parties.



The parties have agreed on the need to unite against the ruling Peoples Democratic Party in the 2015 elections. Investigations showed that the ACN, CPC and ANPP actually began the merger talks three months after the 2011 general elections.

Under the 2011 Electoral Act, the commission cannot allow any merger of political parties less than 90 days to the general elections.

Section 84 (6) of the Act states, “Notwithstanding the provisions of subsection (2) of this section, no merger of political parties received by the commission less than 90 days before any general election in the country shall be considered by the commission.”

Section 84 (2) of the Act states, “Political parties intending to merge shall each give to the commission 90 days notice of their intention to do so before a general election.”

As part of efforts to beat the deadline, the parties have been holding a series of meetings across the country. The meetings, it was gathered, were aimed at adopting a common name and mobilising support for the new party all over the country.

A top member of one of the parties said that they were aware of the antics of the PDP, which he alleged, scuttled such merger talks in the past through the moles it planted in the parties.

He allayed fears that the talks would not bear any good fruit because the parties might disagree over the sharing of political offices. “What is uppermost in our minds is how to rescue the country from this misrule of the PDP. Nobody is talking about how to share political offices now,” he said.

The three parties are now keeping their agenda on the merger secret because of the fear that the ruling party would sabotage it.

A credible source in the opposition who spoke with Olufamous.com said the merger will be complete in the first quarter of 2014 and assured that Nigerians will be given a viable option to kick the PDP out of power once and for all.

3 aides killed in Nasarawa State Governor’s convoy fatal auto crash

 

The convoy of Governor Umaru Tanko Al-Makura of Nasarawa State, was involved in a fatal accident yesterday evening along the Nasarawa-Tooto highway road. The unfortunate incident left 3 political aides of the governor dead.

The accident which occurred around 5pm yesterday involved a government Toyota Hilux and a truck. Three occupants in the Hilux car, including the governor's personal assistant, who is also his nephew, died on the spot.

NOA honour the 7 police officers who investigated Cynthia's murder

 

The National Orientation Agency on Friday September 21st honoured the seven police who investigated and arrested the men who murdered Cynthia Osokogu in a hotel in Festac in July 2012.

The seven police officers - ACP Damien Okoro, the Area Commander 'Festac', DSP Imoh Gregory, Woman ASP Mariam Ogunmolasuyi, ASP Agbaje Yakubu, Inspector Edo Joseph, Woman Sergeant Patience Biokoro and Sergeant Frank Okorobon all of Area 'E' Festac, Lagos, were awarded 'NOA Civic Recognition Award'.

The director general of NOA said the agency decided to honour the police officers because they did an excellent job. The DG said:

The whole nation was gripped with anger, fear and rage when this ugly, unfortunate incident occurred. These patriotic officers stuck out their necks to unravel the mystery. What you did restored Nigeria to the rest of the civilized world. You also restored some sort of succour to the family by arresting those that committed the dastardly act. When people are making such efforts, you must tell them they are doing well. It is for this reason we are recognizing you".

Well, it's their job na, abi? #justsaying! But maybe in Nigeria police officers need this kind of award to encourage them to do their jobs properly!

Update: ACN, CPC, ANPP Fix Merger Date to Defeat The PDP

 

The three leading opposition political parties in Nigeria have intensified talks among them with the aim of merging into one strong party that will dislodge the ruling PDP in 2015.

The parties have decided to settle their "issues" early in order to address the problems that stalled the process in the past. They are also determined to beat INEC's deadline for merger of political parties.



The parties have agreed on the need to unite against the ruling Peoples Democratic Party in the 2015 elections. Investigations showed that the ACN, CPC and ANPP actually began the merger talks three months after the 2011 general elections.

Under the 2011 Electoral Act, the commission cannot allow any merger of political parties less than 90 days to the general elections.

Section 84 (6) of the Act states, “Notwithstanding the provisions of subsection (2) of this section, no merger of political parties received by the commission less than 90 days before any general election in the country shall be considered by the commission.”

Section 84 (2) of the Act states, “Political parties intending to merge shall each give to the commission 90 days notice of their intention to do so before a general election.”

As part of efforts to beat the deadline, the parties have been holding a series of meetings across the country. The meetings, it was gathered, were aimed at adopting a common name and mobilising support for the new party all over the country.

A top member of one of the parties said that they were aware of the antics of the PDP, which he alleged, scuttled such merger talks in the past through the moles it planted in the parties.

He allayed fears that the talks would not bear any good fruit because the parties might disagree over the sharing of political offices. “What is uppermost in our minds is how to rescue the country from this misrule of the PDP. Nobody is talking about how to share political offices now,” he said.

The three parties are now keeping their agenda on the merger secret because of the fear that the ruling party would sabotage it.

A credible source in the opposition who spoke with Olufamous.com said the merger will be complete in the first quarter of 2014 and assured that Nigerians will be given a viable option to kick the PDP out of power once and for all

Nigerian Lawyer Caught In Armed Robbery As Gang Leader

 

He was trained to be a minister in the temple of justice, but this legal practitioner has been arrested for his role in armed robbery operations across Nigeria.

Barrister Promise (other names withheld) led a deadly gang that specialized in snatching at gun-point exotic cars, especially Sport Utility Vehicle (SUV) of different brands.

A police source said that the lawyer recruited members of his gang who usually carried out operations while he remained at the background as the sole receiver of the vehicles.

“He is a lawyer and also a car dealer, who deals only in stolen vehicles. He doesn’t go for operations but he was the sole receiver of the stolen vehicles. He recruited them and bought the vehicles cheaply from the gang,” the police source said.

Most of stolen vehicles were sold in Onitsha, Anambra State. When the crack team of FCT Special Anti-Robbery Squad (SARS) stormed Promise’s residence in Gwagalada, he had fled but was later apprehended in Lugbe, Abuja.

The Deputy Commissioner of Police, Alhaji Alkali Usman said when they received complaints and petitions from the victims he quickly ordered the officer in charge of SARS, Commander, Supol Benneth Igweh (CSP) and his team to take action. He said this was after Barrister Promise’s gang snatched an SUV in Port-Harcourt, robbed the victim and took the stolen vehicle to Abuja and parked it at Promise’s house.

DCP Usman stated that Barrister Promise's gang also robbed a woman in Port-Harcourt as she was taking her daughter to school and snatched the car and parked it at their gang-leader’s compound.

The Commissioner of Police, Adenrele Shinaba, said the victim was lucky because he has a track which was used by SARS operatives to track the SUV and after conversation with the suspect, he ran away from his house in Gwagalada. The policemen from SARS went and locked up his house. He said he was later arrested in Lugbe, Abuja.

CP Shinaba added that when Promise was picked up, “we arrested a lady simply called Amarachi, girlfriend of one of the members of the gang. Amarachi always took the stolen cars to Onitsha in search of buyers. When she discovered that policemen were looking for her, she quickly relocated. She was arrested through phone call,” he said.

According to him, Promise’s arrest led to the apprehension of other suspects: Chimazie, Micheal and John who are now at SARS for further interrogation.

Promise confirmed that he's a qualified lawyer and car dealer. “I am a lawyer I attended Abia State University. I graduated in 1999 and I went to Law School in 2000 and when I came back, I started practising in Abuja.”

CP Shinaba added that Promise and his gang took the detectives to several states including Nasarawa, Edo, Ogun and Kaduna to recover all the cars such as Inifinity Jeep, Toyota Hilux, Honda Pilot Jeep, Honda CRV Jeep, Toyota Camry.

How Policeman Raped 15yrs Old Girl Inside Station; 2 Others Also Raped Her

 

A closer scrutiny reveals Miss Chidinma is a troubled teen. She has been sexually abused serially by those least expected. Her life may never remain the same again.

The April sun was going to bed. Somewhere around Isheri, a Lagos suburb, a 15-year-old girl too was hurrying homeward. She wanted to arrive home before dusk. Suddenly, she struck her foot against a stone half buried in the earth.

The teenager hissed and made to continue with her journey. But one of her footwear did not obey her. A strap had snapped in one of the flip-flops that covered her dusty feet. Chidinma Olosota (not real names) hissed and moved on. After taking some steps, she decided to wait for a mobile cobbler to rectify the situation. 

She looked around and sat at the front of a house. It was a decision that would affect her life. Not long after, a young man approached her, offering to help. The unsuspecting girl took the extended hand of help. A few hours later the young man raped her. Not only that, she was prevented from leaving the house.

Two days after, Chidinma struggled home to her already exasperated parents who were beside themselves with worries over the disappearance of their daughter. After showing her face at home, she was bundled straight to the church where the pastor lectured her on the gains of being an obedient child. It was the return of Chidinma’s father that exhumed any dirt the teenage girl thought had been buried. 

The father insisted that he be taken to the house she spent two days. Reluctantly, the girl led her father to the house she spent the last two days. As soon as the father sighted the young who allegedly housed his daughter for two days, he was overcome by emotion and a shouting match ensued. Invectives and insults were hurled from both sides. Irked by the insolence demonstrated by the young man, Chainman’s father made for the Isheri Police Station to report the matter.

At the police station, the matter was assigned to an elderly police officer who is also said to be the Station Officer. The officer Mr Ajayi, according to a petition signed by 25 rights groups, blamed the girl for the rape “because she ran away from home.”

Also, she “was severely beaten by Inspector Ajayi with her father’s approval on the ground that she caused what happened to her”. 

Meanwhile, that was just the beginning of other harrowing experience which the girl would go through in the hands of this particular law enforcement agent and his colleagues. “Inspector Ajayi then asked that Chidinma (not real name) remain at the police station for a couple of hours in order for her to ‘calm down’.

"Confident that Inspector Ajayi held a position of trust, Mr Olosota (not real name) complied with the instruction and left for work hoping that his daughter would soon be allowed to return home. Whilst at the police station, a number of police officers on duty sexually assaulted her, some fondled her breasts and others verbally abused her.

All of these took place in the presence of Inspector Ajayi and another female officer who goes by the name of Happiness,” alleged the petition which copies were sent to the the Inspector General of Police, Lagos State governor, Lagos State deputy governor, Office of the Public Defender (OPD), Divisional Police Officer, Isheri Police Station, Lagos, Lagos State Ministry of Women Affairs and Poverty Alleviation (WARA) and the Attorney General of Lagos State.

It continued: “Chindinma (not real names) was held at the Police Station all day till late in the evening without being offered any food. When she pleaded with Inspector Ajayi to release her to return home, he paraded her around the holding cells threatening detention with the male inmates. Ensuring that she was frightened enough, Inspector Ajayi took her back to his office.

In his office, he told her to write her statement and as she was writing, he was robbing her back telling her that he wants her to undress, when she refused, he threatened her. In her words: ‘Inspector Ajayi locked his office and told me that he wants to have sex with me and if I don’t agree, he will detain me till tomorrow and carry me and the boy to court so that I will go to prison’.

Apparently scared, she allowed him have his way. Right in the police station and right on the police desk, Inspector Ajayi raped Chidinma (not real name). At 9pm, Miss Chidinma (not real name) was released to go home” Chidinma confirmed the incident to Saturday Mirror adding that when he gave her a sachet of table water after and then allowed her to go home. She added that when she got home, she just went to bed without informing anybody of the incident.

The petition, however, alleged further that: “Inspector Ajayi did not take down Chidinma’s statement or the statement of the perpetrator and did not advise her to visit a general hospital for the necessary medical examination immediately after rape. He didn’t even open a case file for her. He only invited her and her father to the station the next day to go for a pregnancy test at Calvary Hospital, Omole Phase 2”.

But the teenage girl’s ordeal did not end there. On May 16 she was also raped. This time, the perpetrator is an acclaimed brother of a shop owner at Reality Plaza, Isheri. Her account: “A boy called IK now took us to the house. As we were going my friend excused herself saying she was to run an errand for her mum. Ike and I continued. When we got to the house, IK asked me to come inside but I refused. He now begged me to come and that he did not want to bring his sister’s phones outside. On getting inside, he asked to sit and offered me a newspaper.

He told me he was going inside to bring the phone. When he came back, he knelt beside me told me that there was no phone but that there was something he needed from. I asked him what. He then went inside again and brought a knife and asked me to pull off. He said he is a cultist and that he had done it before, that he would kill me and throw my body away in the night. When I refused he pressed the knife on my tummy and neck. When I saw blood, I started pulling off. I had on a gown and a pair of shorts. As I was doing that the N5, 000 which I kept in my knickers fell out and he picked it He asked me to lie down and I refused so he finally pushed me down and raped me.”

At the last incident, the girl could no longer hold it in. She returned to the shop with the aid of some good Samaritans and raised some dust. When her father got wind of the incident, he asked the daughter again to go to the police station, but she refused. On further probing, she finally owned up on why she did not want to return to the police station: she had lost confidence in the police.

That was when she opened up and told her father about her harassment by the officers and eventual rape by Ajayi. Saturday Mirror was at the said police station but everyone contacted declined to speak. Our correspondent was directed to the office of the Police Public Relations Officer. Frequent visits and calls to the officer, however, yielded no results. Twice her phone was picked by her orderly who promised to relay the message to her.

A message to the effect was also sent to her via her facebook account. Saturday Mirror was also at the office of the Officer in Charge (OC) Human Rights of the Lagos State Command Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) Amhedu, who is a lawyer.

Amhedu, who declined to speak with the press because he was not in a position to do so, said his office was aware of the matter. He also directed our reporter to the PPRO. However, a source in the Human Rights unit disclosed to Saturday Mirror that the matter was actually brought to the attention of the unit and that it was taken up and investigated.

The source added that the Commissioner of Police had been advised on the matter. Probed further, the source who disclosed that the unit has in its fold many lawyers of long bar experience added that during investigation, the victim, her father and the suspects including the police officer alleged were invited for interrogation.

“It was then that we discovered that the girl was wayward and that the father was trying to use her to extort money from Ajayi and the Nigerian Police. “It is true that Ajayi flogged her but he never raped her as claimed”, it added.

Asked how they came about their conclusion, the source continued: “In front of everybody we asked the policeman to strip and he did but he was not wearing the type of underwear the girl said he had on. We also sent a police officer to his office, it was not as the girl described. There was no television set and there was no couch.

The girl was just lying “We have reprimanded Ajayi. The police have no right to administer corporal punishment which he did by flogging the girl. We have recommended that he be sent on a six months course on human rights. We have also charged the first suspect to court. Though he claimed, he did not rape her; the girl was a minor then, hence could not give consent.

That is defilement. He has been charged to court and remanded in prison custody” The source also dismissed the claim against the third suspect, IK, saying he was culpable and that the girl’s father also wanted to exploit the young man and his sister.

The source, however, reprimanded the girl’s father accusing him of wanting to use his daughter to exploit the said police officer who was actually his friend before the incident.

Lagos teachers begin strike today

 

Teachers in Lagos state public primary and secondary schools have begun their statewide strike action today.
The teachers vowed to go ahead with the strike since the state government had failed to meet their demands.

Their demand? The teachers are asking the state government to implement the 27.5 percent Teachers Salary Structure (TSS) which was an agreement between the Governors' Forum and the National body of the NUT. They plan to stay at home until their demands are met.

Stop Threatening Me With Impeachment –Jonathan

 

 

The persistent threat by members of the National Assembly, the House of Reps in particular, to impeach President Goodluck Jonathan is no longer taking as a joke.

The President has called on the National Assembly to stop threatening him with impeachment and allow him to do the job for which he was elected for a four-year mandate.



President Jonathan spoke through his Senior Special Assistant on Public Affairs, Dr. Doyin Okupe, at a press briefing in Abuja. Okupe said there was no way there wouldn’t be friction between the executive and the legislature but cautioned that every disagreement should not lead to impeachment threat.

He said, “We would want to appeal to our respected lawmakers to sheathe their swords. They should stop threatening the President with impeachment every time there is a disagreement.

“They should allow the temperature of the polity to come down. We will continue to have executive/legislative conflict, but we should continue to allow maturity to come in.

“Yes, the legislature has the power to impeach, but we should not be flaunting this every time. We should forget about impeachment in order to build this democracy; conflict will always be there, but we must manage it.”

Asked why it was difficult for the President to implement the resolutions passed by the National Assembly, Okupe could not give any reasonable answer but said the action of the President was not meant to spite the lawmakers.

He also called on Nigerians to stop disparaging the office of the President. Okupe said this in reaction to the comments credited to the Convener, Save Nigeria Group, Pastor Tunde Bakare, describing Jonathan’s condemnation of the protest that greeted the January 1 removal of subsidy on petrol as “bunkum”.

Recall that Jonathan had said the protest was sponsored by unnamed people, and that Nigerians were not totally against the policy of government.
